Christmas in Fethiye

Former guests/current residents of Fethiye celebrated Christmas with traditional Christmas Fair in Çalış beach area. The high amount of attendance was partly caused by weather and increasing numbers of foreign residents immigrating Turkey.

The breath-taking nature and historical sights of Fethiye not only attracting foreign tourists, have always been a popular touristic attraction for local tourists as well. Number of people who have visited Fethiye for holiday purposes and decided to stay permanently is more than you would guess. But still, majority of tourist profile in Fethiye consists of UK citizens.

UK residents living in Fethiye have always lead popular community events and charity organizations, like monthly Second-Hand Market in Çalış, Animal Aid table-top sales and Fethiye International Group (FIG) charity shop. Another popular traditional event that is organized by local and foreign residents of Fethiye is Çalış Christmas Fair in December.

The fair was held on Çalış Beach area of Fethiye. Temperature was 19 C and sunny. It can’t be qualified as a very “Christmassy” weather, as winter is generally quite soft in Fethiye, especially this year. Attendance was highest this year, with more than 1000 guests. Many reported coming from Antalya, Dalaman and other nearby locations. Christmas cakes and British hotdogs were among the most popular sales, along with Christmas cards, handmade decorations, ornaments, candles, toys, books, jewellery, clothes, homemade cookies and other presents. Father Christmas arrived for children in a decorated sleigh, along with his elf, fairy, stag and a snowman. Santa’s cottage opened its doors for little guests and no children left without present.

Majority of charity organizations in Fethiye also held stalls and raised quite a lot of donations. Çalış Children’s Charity (3C Fethiye), Fethiye International Group, FETAV and Animal Aid were among these successful charity organizations.

If you are planning a holiday in Fethiye, I advise you to keep an open mind. Who know, you might find yourself viewing your new house in Fethiye.
